Jadzia is a three-time guest on the show(!), as well as the creator of the smash-hit graphic novel Galaxy: The Prettiest Star, and its brand-new sequel, Galaxy: As the World Falls Down. We sit down to talk superhero comics, “Go Birds,” and more as we tell a Galaxy fanfiction story using a bespoke Powered by the Apocalypse system!
Superhero
Stories about comic books and superheroes.
489 – Death of the Author feat. Isabel J. Kim (Author, Sublimation)
Isabel is a speculative fiction writer and podcast host (Wow If True), whose debut novel, Sublimation, a story of Doppelgängers, corporate intrigue, heartbreak, betrayal, and the harsh permanence of the border, hits stores on June 2, 2026. We dig deep into the well of metafiction in a game of superhero vs. author in a game of Death of the Author by Blinking Birch Games.
478 – Zoetrope with Myq Kaplan
Myq is a standup comedian of over 20 years, who has appeared on the Tonight Show, Conan, Letterman, James Corden, Seth Meyers, Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing, and America’s Got Talent. He’s also the host of Broccoli and Ice Cream and The Faucet, and his latest special, Rini, developed with his partner of over a decade, is available on YouTube right now.
We sat down to build a superhero world and celebrate our mutual love of comic books and big ideas in a game of Zoetrope, a superhero worldbuilding game about creating a comic book universe.
471 – Tapestry with Kaitlin Bruder
Kaitlin is one of the producers behind Thin Places Radio, an award-winning short-form fiction podcast in the shape of a radio show from nowhere, in which the mysterious Host comes responds to real voicemails from actual callers with supernaturally sentimental anecdotes and advice. She’s also a streamer, actual play performer, artist, and designer–a fellow wearer of many creative hats.
We sat down for a session of Kaitlin’s favorite game, Tapestry, an interpretive card-based RPG of weaving character’s stories together, and coming to witness the tanged, densely interconnected threads and patterns that result.
467 – Apocalypse Keys with Kieron Gillen
Kieron is the writer behind some of my favorite comics, including Young Avengers, Journey Into Mystery, and The Wicked + The Divine. His latest works include The Power Fantasy, about the six superpowered individuals with the power to singlehandedly destroy the planet, and Die Loaded, the sequel to his incredible comic book/RPG combo Die, about a dark fantasy roleplaying game come to life.
We sat down for some monstrous superhero mystery in Apocalypse Keys, about the demonic agents of a massive organization tasked with stopping the end of the world. DIVISION is calling, monsters. Do you answer? Or will you become the Harbinger youself?
SPECIAL EPISODE: Party of One Says Go Birds – 002 – Work/Life/Work/Life Balance with Jadzia Axelrod (LIVE)
Jadzia is the writer of Galaxy: The Prettiest Star and Hawkgirl: Once Upon a Galaxy, and the longtime host of The Voice of Free Planet X (Jeff’s favorite podcast of all time).
We sat down to spin up a delightfully supernatural 70s superhero comic book in Work/Life/Work/Life Balance by Rudo Judo games.
Recorded live at Unity Java in Philadelphia, PA!
Batman: Bump in the Night – Issue #1: Terror at 11:11PM!
SPECIAL EPISODE! We’re taking a week off from the show, so in the meantime, enjoy the first issue of our Patreon-exclusive podcast, produced in collaboration with Marn Lastname and the Moonshot Podcast Network! New episodes drop every month on Patreon.
TERROR AT 11:11AM! A string of suspiciously timed deaths suggest someone–or SOMETHING–is on a killing spree across the city. Can Batman solve the case before he… runs out of time?
451 – See Issue X with Third Person
449 – It Takes Two to Tango with Mark Vertlib
It Takes Two to Tango is a 2-player, rules-lite, GM-less tabletop RPG about rival spies sent on a mission together. Two rival spies. Two rival agencies. One major job. And unfortunately, one way through the door: Pretending to be a married couple.
I sat down with the game’s designer, Mark Vertlib, for a superheroic espionage-filled game to see how it all works.
432 – Worlds Without Harmony with Sean Foer
Sean is a professional Game Master, video creator, and INCREDIBLE advocate for the world of TTRPGs. We sat down to play a faction-filled game of Worlds Without Harmony, a game of ideological conflicts, unanswerable questions, and the people caught up in them.
You’ll dig this episode if you like: Superheroes (specifically, the NBC masterpiece Heroes), inventive worldbuilding, folk heroes, and big emotional swings.
